Total hip replacement

Total hip arthroplasty (THA).

Surgical replacement of the hip joint with a prosthetic implant. The outpatient CPT path (27130) increasingly covers cases that used to require inpatient admission; the inpatient MS-DRG path (469/470) still applies to longer stays. Implant cost is a large share of the total bill and is usually billed separately.

What's included

Each component is a category of charge that contributes to the total bill. Items marked “billed separately” are still part of the episode, but you'll receive that bill from a different provider.

Lowest negotiated rate the hospital or insurer has published for this package. Each row is labeled with its source — Hospital MRF. Use the insurer selector to switch between the cross-payer rollup and per-insurer rates. Rows from TiC files older than 3 months are dimmed. Partial rows missing only a benchmarked professional component show a separate published-plus-CMS estimate. Public pages show a comparison-sized sample; bulk provider exports belong in the data API.

Common questions

What's included in the total hip replacement package?
Surgical replacement of the hip joint with a prosthetic implant. The outpatient CPT path (27130) increasingly covers cases that used to require inpatient admission; the inpatient MS-DRG path (469/470) still applies to longer stays. Implant cost is a large share of the total bill and is usually billed separately.
What's typically billed separately for total hip replacement?
These components are usually billed by a different provider on a separate invoice: anesthesia. They're still part of the episode of care.
How does the total hip replacement package price get calculated?
Cleartau sums per-component representative prices across the procedure, facility, anesthesia, and (where applicable) implant lines. The package median equals the sum of per-component medians; min and max work the same way. When a hospital publishes a formula (e.g. "150% of Medicare") instead of a dollar amount, the formula is resolved against the matching CMS fee schedule before aggregation.
