Knee replacement

Total knee arthroplasty, inpatient stay included.

Surgical replacement of the knee joint with a prosthesis. Typically requires a 1–3 night inpatient stay (some hospitals now do same-day-discharge for healthy patients). The episode includes surgeon, anesthesia, facility, implant hardware, and post-op rehabilitation. Hospitals may report this as a single MS-DRG bundle or as multiple component rows.

What's included

Each component is a category of charge that contributes to the total bill. Items marked “billed separately” are still part of the episode, but you'll receive that bill from a different provider.

Provider prices — negotiated

Showing 8 hospitals - NJ, NY

Lowest negotiated rate the hospital or insurer has published for this package. Each row is labeled with its source — Hospital MRF or Payer Transparency in Coverage file. Use the insurer selector to switch between the cross-payer rollup and per-insurer rates. Rows from TiC files older than 3 months are dimmed. Partial rows missing only a benchmarked professional component show a separate published-plus-CMS estimate. Public pages show a comparison-sized sample; bulk provider exports belong in the data API.

Common questions

What's included in the knee replacement package?
Surgical replacement of the knee joint with a prosthesis. Typically requires a 1–3 night inpatient stay (some hospitals now do same-day-discharge for healthy patients). The episode includes surgeon, anesthesia, facility, implant hardware, and post-op rehabilitation. Hospitals may report this as a single MS-DRG bundle or as multiple component rows.
What's typically billed separately for knee replacement?
These components are usually billed by a different provider on a separate invoice: anesthesia. They're still part of the episode of care.
How does the knee replacement package price get calculated?
Cleartau sums per-component representative prices across the procedure, facility, anesthesia, and (where applicable) implant lines. The package median equals the sum of per-component medians; min and max work the same way. When a hospital publishes a formula (e.g. "150% of Medicare") instead of a dollar amount, the formula is resolved against the matching CMS fee schedule before aggregation.
